Nonlinear Diffusion in Transparent Media

چکیده
Abstract We consider a prototypical nonlinear parabolic equation whose flux has three distinguished features: it is with respect to both the unknown and its gradient, homogeneous, depends only on direction of gradient. For such equation, we obtain existence uniqueness entropy solutions Dirichlet problem, homogeneous Neumann Cauchy problem. Qualitative properties solutions, as finite speed propagation occurrence waiting-time phenomena, sharp bounds, are shown. also discuss formation jump discontinuities at boundary solutions’ support in bulk.

Observation of speckle pattern formation in transparent nonlinear random media.
We report on the experimental observation of speckle formation from a transparent crystal formed by a random distribution of nonlinear domains. The angular distribution of second-harmonic light generated by a transparent strontium barium niobate crystal is measured for different diameters of the fundamental beam and crystal thicknesses. Distinct manifestations of speckle pattern formation are f...

Superfast nonlinear diffusion: capillary transport in particulate porous media.
The migration of liquids in porous media, such as sand, has been commonly considered at high saturation levels with liquid pathways at pore dimensions. In this Letter, we reveal a low saturation regime observed in our experiments with droplets of extremely low volatility liquids deposited on sand. In this regime, the liquid is mostly found within the grain surface roughness and in the capillary...

We begin with the initial-boundary-value problem for a coupled system of partial differential equations which describes the Biot consolidation model in poroelasticity. Existence, uniqueness and regularity theory is developed for the quasi-static case as an application of the theory of linear degenerate evolution equations in Hilbert space, and this leads to a precise description of the dynamics...
